Overview
If a team member has forgotten their DEFT password, an administrator can reset it from within the application. Passwords in DEFT are managed by your organisation—Bright cannot reset them remotely.
This article covers how to reset a user password if you have administrator access to your DEFT database.
Before you begin
You’ll need: - Administrator-level access to your DEFT database - Access to the Parameters menu - The ability to log in to DEFT
If you do not have administrator access, contact your IT manager or database administrator to reset the password.
Steps to reset a user password
- Log in to DEFT as an administrator.
- Navigate to Parameters from the main menu.
- Select Users from the Parameters menu.
- Select the user from the dropdown list whose password needs to be reset.
- Click the Enter/Change/Reset Password button (shown in the Users management screen).
- Enter the new password in the “New Password” field.
- Re-enter the new password in the “Re-enter Password” field to confirm it.
- Click OK to save the new password.
Result
The user’s password has been reset. The user can now log in to DEFT using the new password you’ve set.
Important: Notify the user of their new temporary password securely. We recommend asking them to change it to a password only they know when they first log in.
If you don’t have administrator access
If no other user has administrator access to your database, you’ll need to contact Bright Technical Support. They can assist with a formal password reset process.
To request this support, send a scanned letter to Bright Technical Support that includes:
- Your company name and DEFT database extension
- The purpose of the request (password reset)
- Your company’s official letterhead
- A signature from a company director
- Contact details for the company director
- The name of the person who should receive the new password
- Phone number and availability times for the person to be contacted
Troubleshooting
I can’t find the Enter/Change/Reset Password button
Possible cause: You may not have administrator-level access to the database.
Resolution: Contact your database administrator to reset the password, or request support from Bright Technical Support.
The password reset didn’t work
Possible cause: The new password may not meet DEFT’s password requirements, or there was an issue saving the change.
Resolution: Try again with a different password. If the issue persists, contact Bright Technical Support.
